PRE-PRODUCTION
Pre-production is the foundation of every successful animation project. At O2, we believe that careful planning and creative alignment during this phase are essential for delivering high-quality animated content that resonates with audiences and meets client expectations.
Pre-production involves all the planning and conceptual development before actual production begins.
Key components of our pre-production process include:
Concept Development
The initial idea is developed into a compelling story. This includes brainstorming sessions, mood boards, and early creative concepts that help define the tone and message of the animation.
Scriptwriting
A detailed script is written, serving as the blueprint for the animation. It includes dialogue, scene descriptions, and narrative structure, aligning with the project’s objectives.
Storyboarding
Visual representations of scenes are created to map out the storyline. Storyboards act as a visual guide for directors and animators, helping anticipate transitions, timing, and visual flow.
Character & Environment Design
Character profiles and environment concepts are developed to establish the visual style. Our design team crafts distinctive characters and settings that align with the story’s tone and audience.
Animatics
We create animatics —a rough animated version of the storyboard—combined with temporary sound effects, dialogue, and music. This helps evaluate pacing, timing, and narrative clarity before production begins.
Voice Casting & Recording
Casting the right voice talent is crucial. We collaborate with experienced voice actors to record dialogue during pre-production, ensuring performances fit seamlessly with character personalities.
Technical Planning
We define the production pipeline, animation techniques, frame rates, and software tools to be used. This helps streamline the process and avoid costly revisions later.
At O2, pre-production is more than just preparation—it’s where imagination takes shape. By investing time and creativity in this phase, we ensure our animation projects start strong and finish even stronger.
